Idion`s Orion gains recognition

Johannesburg, 02 May 2003

Last year Idion Technology Holdings cited the development of its Orion product as one of the reasons to hold onto Idion shares during a hostile takeover attempt. Orion now appears to be gaining recognition.

The Orion suite has led to Idion subsidiary Vision Solutions being named a finalist in the innovative product/technology category of the 10th annual American Electronics Association (AeA) High-Tech Awards.

AeA is the US`s largest hi-tech trade association, representing more than 3 000 companies with 1.8 million employees.

Launched at IBM PartnerWorld in February, Orion is the first managed availability suite that operates across multiple platforms.

Essentially, it enables users to the functional availability of servers, and applications across an enterprise, regardless of platform, supporting OS/400, Windows and Linux. Functions include data integration across disparate databases as well as managed application and server availability including multi-system co-ordinated fail-over and .

Idion used the then upcoming launch of Orion as one of its defences against last year`s hostile takeover attempt by Canadian competitor DataMirror.

Both Idion and independent advisor PricewaterhouseCoopers said the future value of Orion was one of the factors in assessing the worth of Idion as a group.

Speaking at the release of the group`s annual results in March, Vision president and chief operating officer Alan Arnold said the new solution would be rolled out in a controlled fashion this year.

"It`s not a matter of Orion or die, but it is a differentiator," he said.
