On the 1st of April this year, IDWS launched VSHOP, a dynamic browser-based storefront development and management system that effortlessly integrates into any existing Web site.
According to Alan Fern of IDWS, there has been an increased awareness of the importance of e-commerce in both the South African retail and consumer markets. More and more businesses have started moving towards online retailing as opposed to simply using the Internet as an advertising medium. This increased awareness of the importance of e-commerce has not only been expressed by the large retail outlets, but also by the small to medium business sector.
To date, setting-up a secure and professional e-commerce store has been out of the reach of many businesses, due to the large costs associated with developing a custom e-commerce solution. In light of this situation, IDWS has over the past few months developed a browser based storefront creation and management program called VSHOP. This new online system replaces the need for anyone wishing to start there own online store from having to learn complicated programming and incurring high costs associated with setting up and maintaining a online shopping system.
"The administration interface provides access to an array of easy to use online tools. Some of the features of VSHOP include: product and stock management, order tracking, detailed sales reports, shipping and tax rate management, to mention but a few," says Gerhard Botha, one of the developers of VSHOP. One of the main challenges when developing VSHOP, according to Botha, was to design a shopping cart system that was not only highly advanced and rich in features, but which at the same time was extremely versatile and simple enough for even the most novice of Internet users to set-up and maintain. Botha goes on to explain that the entire VSHOP system was designed to give store owners the ability to set-up and maintain their very own online store without the need to employ a web developer to update the store for them.
By partnering with NedBank and BOE, two of South Africa`s leading Internet merchant banks, IDWS has through VSHOP been able to developed a product that will make e-commerce both more affordable and accessible to all who wish to do online retailing.
