In Norway, it will soon be possible to order alcoholic beverages via the Internet and have them delivered. A/S Vinmonopolet, the Norwegian state-controlled chain of liquor stores, plans to launch a Web store for sales of wine and spirits and has chosen IFS to deliver the components for this unique e-business solution.
Accenture is the main supplier. The total value of the contract is in excess of SEK 31 M, with IFS supplying software licences and services (back office solutions) in an amount of SEK 7 million.
The site is scheduled go online during the first half of 2002, targeting ordinary consumers. A/S Vinmonopolet has already set up a special organisation, which will also be accessible via telephone and fax, to run the Web store.
Pricelists are already available on A/S Vinmonopolet`s Web site, where customers, for a fee, can order goods over the phone and have them delivered.
The aim of the new Web store is to make the company`s products more available regardless of where people live or where the nearest liquor store is located. Accenture is the main supplier, with IFS as a significant partner responsible for implementing the back office solution for A/S Vinmonopolet`s inventory and customer centre.
IFS Applications was chosen despite strong competition from several other vendors. IFS will supply the infrastructure for the Web store, including software components for distribution, inventory management, customer centre, forecasts, and financial control. These will form the backbone of the Web store solution.
"The agreement with A/S Vinmonopolet is an excellent example of how flexible modern technology combined with competence within logistics can simplify the flow of goods. IFS Applications is a standard system, but supports large companies` requirements for streamlined logistics solutions. It also provides A/S Vinmonopolet`s customers with added service by enabling them to place their orders via the Internet," commented Glenn Arnesen from IFS Norway.
