IFS: Polish power plant Kozienice selects IFS Applications

Johannesburg, 19 Nov 2003

Kozienice is one of the largest coal-fuelled plants in Europe with a total capacity of 2 845 MW. The main goal of the implementation of IFS Applications is to build a unified knowledge base to provide easy, user-friendly access to the information to support decision-making processes at various levels in the organisation. Tools such as balanced scorecards and personal portals will be used to achieve this.

Jan Wrona, president of Kozienice power plant, said: "The software provider was selected in a tender process in which the leading ERP suppliers on the Polish market participated. The criteria we used allowed us to rationally select a reliable, high-quality product that meets the requirements of the power industry while minimising the risks associated with implementation.

"As the implementation will cover almost all our business processes, we were looking for a solution that offered the best functionality for our requirements, utilised state-of-the-art technology such as personal portals and balanced scorecards, and provided maximum internal integration. A system capable of meeting those requirements is essential to provide access to information we can use as a basis for power plant decision-making processes."

Following the implementation phase, the system should be able to:

* Optimise and automate data entry processes by eliminating redundancy.

* Increase the efficiency of budget processes and their validation by authorising direct access to data at organisational unit level.

* Support employees in areas which hitherto lacked IT support.

* Integrate activities of various departments by providing unified detailed data from different perspectives.

"We are proud that IFS Applications has been selected by a company such as Kozienice. Kozienice power plant is the twentieth customer from the Polish utility industry to trust our solution and competence," said Andrzej Lowas, president of IFS Poland.

IFS prioritises the energy and utilities industry and has 120 customers involved in power generation, transmission and distribution. These include the nuclear power stations in Barseb"ack (Sweden), OKG (Sweden), and Quinshan (PR China), grid operators such as Svenska Kraftn"at (Sweden), Statnett (Norway), and TenneT (The Netherlands) as well as distributors such as Siemens Energy Services (New Zealand), Fortum (Sweden), and Trondheim Energi (Norway).

IFS has been delivering service and maintenance solutions, key processes in the energy and utilities industry, for 18 years. Industry analysts such as Gartner, AMR Research, and ARC rank the service and maintenance functionality in IFS Applications among the best in the market. According to ARC, IFS is the global market leader in the industry, with 13% of the global market for service and maintenance systems.

The system will run on an IBM platform.

Elektrownia Kozienice S.A.

Kozienice power plant is a condensation-type power plant with an open cooling system using the water from the Vistula River. The electric power is generated by eight power units of 205-225 MW and two power units of 535-560 MW. The total operating capacity of the power plant is 2845 MWe and 266 MWt, and exceeds the original capacity of 2600 MW due to the modernization of individual power units.

The power station with its operating capacity constitutes 12% of the total capacity within the Polish electric power system (in 2002). This makes Kozienice the leading power generator among power plants fuelled with hard coal. The gross output of Kozienice S.A. between 1996 and 2002 ranged from 7.7 to 9 TWh/a, which represented about 7.3-8.7% of the electric power generated by the domestic power industry. The fuel, hard coal, is supplied mainly by the following companies (coal mines): Katowicki Holding W^eglowy S.A., Kompania W^eglowa S.A., LW Bogdanka S.A.
