Imager option for Psion Teklogix 7535 terminal

Johannesburg, 11 Sep 2004

Psion Teklogix is a global provider of solutions for mobile computing and wireless data collection. The company`s fully integrated mobile computing solutions include rugged hardware, secure wireless networks, robust software, professional services and exceptional support programs. Psion Teklogix is committed to helping its customers garner the benefits of new and emerging technologies.

Psion Teklogix recently released the Advanced Imager option, with two range options, for the 7535. The range options are: Standard Range and Ultra Long Range.

This high-end image capture and transfer system was developed to read high density bar codes with a large field of view. The imager is capable of resolving and reading all major bar codes, and includes the ability to perform picture taking and signature capture to enhance the functionality and expand the application uses for data capture devices.

"The introduction of the Advanced Imager option on 7535 terminals demonstrates product flexibility in with different types of scanning engines", says Psion Teklogix Country Manager, Raymond Hoy.

The Imager`s Key Features Include:

* 2nd Generation Imager
* 1.3 Megapixel (SXGA, 1280 x 1024) digital imaging
* LED Type Targeting
* Large field-of view
* Robust reading
* Omnidirectional (360^0) reading of barcode
* Smart power saving mode
* Automatic discrimination between multiple symbologies
* Ability to decode multiple symbologies in a single exposure
* Extremely durable - no moving parts

The Psion Teklogix Imager Scanner takes a snap shot of a single bar code or multiple bar codes in a single operation and can find a bar code regardless of its orientation - i.e. even a bar code printed at a 45 degree angle to the 7535 will be decoded successfully.

Because imager scanners generally have a shorter depth of field than laser scanners, some practice may be required to find the optimal distance from the types of bar codes being scanned. Although the imager includes illumination LEDs, ambient light will help the imager decode the bar codes, especially if the bar code is some distance from the 7535.

It is important to keep in mind that the imager scanner is a camera, and that the LED illumination is a flash. Glare can be an issue on reflective media such as plastic coated bar codes, just as glare is an issue for photographers. When pointing the 7535 at shiny surfaces, the bar code should be shifted either to the side or to the top, or angled to reflect the glare away from the imager scanner.
