Zimbabwean imaging specialist and sole Exsol VAR, Imaging Solutions, has been contracted to install and customise an integrated archival imaging system (IAIS) from knowledge management specialist Exsol, at Barclays Bank Zimbabwe. Exsol is a division of JSE listed EC-Hold.
The multi-million Rand contract includes the provision of hardware, software, training and support for a new system to replace the banks physical archiving system.
The new system has removed the need to sort and return physical cheques to the bank`s clients with their statements. This will reduce costs by saving time, cutting out manual processing and speed the resolution of customer enquiries.
Imaging Solutions together with NCR Zimbabwe have provided Barclays with a system which includes three NCR 7780 item-processing machines which have the capacity to scan about 1 000 000 images per day, to be installed at Barclays` data processing centre in Harare.
The images scanned by these machines will be processed on a system developed by Exsol using Exsol-DIS (Document Imaging Software). Exsol-DIS will manage the storage and retrieval of the voucher images. The final product of the system will be an `image statement` effectively providing Barclays clients with a traditional statement with images of each cheque on an image sheet. "Barclays Bank chose Imaging Solutions to install and customise the system due to the company`s expertise and experience in the Zimbabwean computing environment and the virtually ready-made solution it was able to provide through its relationship with Exsol," says Fred Wilkinson, project consultant to Barclays Bank.
Barclays Bank required substantial customisation due to the additional functionality required to handle the volumes which they process. "Exsol has committed full support to us during the customisation process. Exsol-DIS is easy to learn, powerful, flexible, and can be tailored specifically to Barclays Bank`s needs. In addition, Exsol`s experience in and commitment to the document management industry has enabled it to become the largest systems integrator in Africa in this field," says Simon Dix, sales director of Imaging Solutions.
"For Exsol, the deal represents a further endorsement of the successful application of our products in the banking industry," concludes Amir Lubashevsky, marketing and sales director of EC-Hold.
Imaging Solutions is the sole distributor and value-added reseller of Exsol products in Zimbabwe.
