Increased mobility with RealPort2

Set to enhance mobility in the business sector, Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) a member of the Siltek IT supply chain, has released the Xircom RealPort 2 Integrated PC Card. Besides offering hardy connectors, it also delivers the flexibility of a single-function PC card.

This is made possible as the RealPort2 card separates the PC card funct ion the integrated connector system, allowing for two key benefits: a multifunction card solution when using two RealPort2 cards; and an integrated connector system.

"The design of the card allows for it to be flipped, locking the two integrated connectors together. Once the coupled cards are inserted, both are recognised and configured by the operating system as normal," explains Tessa Klug, product manager at SDD.

"Two cards were required by users before the RealPort2 to connect to the network and login to the Internet. Now they have a combined operation in one card, " says Klug. "It provides single or multifunction configuration that can be mixed and matched with other Realport2 cards without needing any extra port slots."

The benefit of this technology is that it adapts to users' growing needs by providing a replacement option to older technology, one function at a time.

Klug adds that decreasing adapter and cable replacement costs will reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). "Cables traditionally associated with t his device are the most vulnerable when it comes to breakage."

RealPort2 integrated PC cards are available in 16-bit and CardBus versions and include Ethernet 10/100, Modem 56 GlobalACCESS with GSM/ISDN capabilities. However Klug says future products will support DSL, Home PNA (Home Phoneline Networking), blueTooth and other emerging technologies.
