Xhead = India develops £14 laptop
India's top scientists from the Institutes of Technology, in Bangalore and Madras, have developed cheap laptops that will run on low power, with low memory, but be able to connect wirelessly to the Internet, reports Telegraph.
Higher education officials say a prototype of the new laptop will be unveiled in Tirupati this week, and has been produced for £14 (R206), but with large production runs and support from major developers they believe the price will come down to $10 (R102).
The machine can be charged with a 2-watt power input, has a 2GB memory, which can be enhanced, and a configuration that can be upgraded and will be able to project from the monitor for use in local classrooms.
E-learning forum ends in Dubai
The second forum on e-learning excellence in the Middle East, organised by e-TQM College, concluded on a high note, says Middle East Events.
The four-day event at Jumeirah Beach Hotel witnessed the participation of large numbers of international experts in the field of e-learning, as well as individuals interested in e-learning and continuing education.
“The success of the e-learning forum this year went above and beyond our expectations. The forum consisted of keynote speeches, workshops, Q&A debates and focus group discussions. It will, without a doubt, have a significant positive impact on the e-learning sector in the Arab world,” says e-TQM College VP Dr Mansoor Al Awar.
ICSI opens e-learning portal
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has introduced a 24X7 e-learning portal in collaboration with Gurukul Online Learning Solutions in rural India, states Sakaal Times.
ICSI president Datla Hanumanta Raju says the institute had an impressive membership of over 23 000 and a student population of over 150 000, making it one of the biggest of its kind internationally.
The institute has tied up with Indira Gandhi National Open University, under which the latter will launch a BCom course with corporate affairs and administration, and MCom course with business policy and corporate governance exclusively for students of company secretary course and members of ICSI.
