India gets micro- technology

Gemalto has introduced smart card technology with biometric authentication for Financial Information Network and Operations in India, says SecureIDNews.

The solution stores transaction records inside the smart card to enable micro-banking, and simplifies access to financial services for the under-banked population in rural India.

Transactions are approved after fingerprint information is read using low-cost readers and then verified by the card micro-computer at businesses.

Female financial technologists recognised

Nominations are open for the European Banking Technology Award's Outstanding Contribution by a Female in Financial Technology prize, says Women in Technology.

Sponsored by womenintechnology.co.uk, the award helps to raise the profile of leading female technologists.

Last year's winner was Cheryl Newton, of Credit Suisse, for her leadership in the firm's Environment Simplification Programme and IT Portfolio Management project.
