In VAR Business' annual "Top 100 Products," Novell captured top honors for 1998 in three categories. Novell's NetWare 5 network server platform was chosen as one of five "best of the best in 1998 " by VAR Business editors, selected for "technical excellence, reliability and quality, popularity with resellers and systems integrators" and for "impact on the industry as a whole."
Novell's GroupWise 5.5 messaging solution won in the Groupware category, beating Lotus Notes and Microsoft's Exchange Server. Novell's BorderManager Enterprise Edition 3 Internet security management suite was chosen among the top 3 solutions in the Internet Security category.
PC Computing bestowed its prestigious MVP Award to Novell's GroupWise 5.5, stating, "GroupWise is no mere e-mail package. GroupWise makes it possible to take teamwork to the next level; even if your team is scattered across the country. Sharing documents is easier than ever with GroupWise's new document library, which prevents duplicate copies and saves you server space."
Editors put thousands of products through PC Computing's Business Labs to determine which scored best in usability, reliability, performance and return on investment. The MVP award celebrates innovation, technology, usability, and overall design.
Novell also received nominations from PC Week's Best of Comdex competition for SQL Integrator database access solution and BorderManager Enterprise Edition 3. SQL Integrator was nominated in the Best Networking Software category for software-based products that conform to and improve standards-based network architectures, while BorderManager Enterprise Edition 3 was a finalist in the Best Internet Software category, which recognized effective use of open standards in both public and private information networks.
