Industry gathers to receive research sustenance

Johannesburg, 03 Sep 2004

Results of applied research in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry will be revealed at the industry`s think tank in Stellenbosch - one of SA`s academic hubs - from 6 to 8 September.

Hosted by Telkom, SATNAC is the ICT`s industry`s premier event for industry, academia and operators to report back on progress achieved in multi-discipline research. Postgraduate students from Telkom`s Centres of Excellence are also given the platform to share their findings with the research and development (R&D)-hungry industry.

Speakers will plot the evolution of profitable migration strategies towards the future network, debate the evolution of wireless broadband markets and receive differing viewpoints on the much-hyped convergence of fixed and mobile communication. The convergence panellists include high-profile industry proponents Sizwe Nxasana, Telkom`s CEO, Matt Bross, CEO of British Telecom, Alan Knott-Craig, Vodacom`s CEO, and Adrian Scrase, ETSI`s CEO.

Reuben September, Telkom`s Chief Technical Officer, and Nombulelo Moholi, Telkom`s Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, will interact with each other during the keynote address on how technology will meet customer expectations going forward. Other speakers include Antti Kankkunen, Chief Technical Officer of Tellabs International, Gilad Peleg of Alvarion, and Dr Michelle Selinger of Cisco Systems.

Thousands of South Africans will be able to follow the opening day proceedings on Summit TV (DStv channel 55). The day`s programme (Monday, 6 September), running from 8.30am to 3pm, will also be Webcast live on http://stream.ru.ac.za/satnac2004.
