Industry shake-up coming?

In an industry-leading move, OKI extends warranties on all printers and multifunction products to three years free of charge.

Johannesburg, 25 Jun 2009

OKI South Africa has announced an industry-first with the extension of carry-in and on-site warranties to three years on all its printers and multi functions as from 1 July 2009.

“Building on the strong reputation and presence OKI has in the market, the decision was taken to unilaterally upgrade all warranties from the standard one-year warranty, at no additional charge to the customer,” says Printacom, sole South African OKI representative managing director, Neil Rom. “This represents a significant saving for our loyal customers of up to 30% of the value of their printer, and adds weight to our philosophy of putting our money where our mouth is in terms of our reliability.”

Rom adds that the offer is in reaction to the tough market conditions, and that customers are looking for peace of mind that they will be looked after and supported in the long-term. “We fully back our product and service, and I think this adds weight to that conviction,” he says.

The extended warranty is restricted to customers in South Africa, and covers all parts and labour. The only two conditions - which also apply to existing warranties - are that original consumables be used in the machines, and the printers and warranties have to be activated on OKI's South African Web site by registering the product and its serial number.

“There is no charge if a customer wishes to extend the warranty within the same class - that being on-site or carry-in. If, however, they wish to extend and upgrade from a carry-in to on-site, there will be a charge to cover the additional guarantees that come with such a change,” explains Rom.

He concludes that this extended warranty deal will be in place permanently from here on, and is not a short-term marketing gimmick to gain new customers.

“We are committed to our customers, and I think that introducing this warranty extension goes a long way to demonstrating our level of commitment and showing the reliability of the OKI brand.”
