Info Sec Africa to host SA forum on IT governance

Johannesburg, 08 Jul 2003

Great strides have been made to simplify and optimise the IT governance process, however, implementing the right strategy is a different challenge altogether.

This is one of the key reasons why Info Sec Africa will host the IT Governance Forum and CobiT Workshop, held from 21 to 23 July 2003 at the Cape Town Convention Centre, empowering South African companies to implement strategies that adhere to real-world IT governance problems.

The forum will feature IT governance implementations by leading SA companies such as Old Mutual, Nedcor, De Beers and Liberty Group.

IT Governance Forum highlights include the management of IT processes for better governance, and the application of CobiT (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology) and the Capability Maturity Model.

Importantly, the forum will also look at "Getting Started with an IT Governance Programme" as well as IT governance initiatives in our local government.

Comments Peter Hill, managing director of Info Sec Africa: "Many organisations understand the potential benefits that technology can offer. Successful organisations, however, understand and manage the risks associated with implementing new technologies.

"Through the IT Governance Forum and CobiT Workshop we hope to provide a real understanding of IT governance and how it - if implemented correctly - can benefit not only an organisation`s IT infrastructure, but business in general."

The CobiT Workshop will focus on the application of the framework in the IT environment, particularly looking at its impact on IT governance.

CobiT is today regarded as a leading management framework for information technology and offers a fully integrated approach to IT alignment, performance measurement, process improvement, risk management and governance.

"The CobiT Workshop will look at a number of topics, such as how to implement the framework successfully from the start - taking a step-by-step approach that can be deployed in any environment, both large and small, as well as how CobiT can improve business alignment, ensuring that IT activities have an higher impact on it," comments Hill.

CobiT incorporates the use of the Balanced Scorecard and other useful concepts. The use of these tools and techniques will form an important part of the workshop.
