The Rand Afrikaans University and Port Elizabeth Technikon (PET) will host a Governance of ICT Risk Management and Information Security conference, from 21 to 23 November at Fancourt in George.
"With ongoing court cases in which companies face legal action related to bad governance, the conference will highlight the importance of complying with legislation on corporate and ICT governance," says Professor Rossouw von Solms, head of PET`s IT department.
"The conference will focus mainly on IT in the education and financial sectors, and we are aiming at CEOs, CIOs, senior board members and IT managers, who will give their input on the subject matter," says Von Solms.
"The conference is organised by the Institute for the Governance of ICT Risk and Information Security and will include an address by Judge Mervin King on corporate governance and risk in the utilisation of ICT.
"Some of the issues to be discussed include corporate and ICT governance, the responsibilities of executive managers and board members, legal implications of bad governance and practical guidelines on ICT governance," says Von Solms.
"It is a totally national event hosted by the two institutions, and being the first of its kind we are looking to make it an annual event, to keep up to date with the governance of ICT risk management and information security."
