TippingPoint, a division of 3Com and the leader in intrusion prevention, today announced that Infonetics Research has issued a new network security report concluding that TippingPoint is tied for first place for revenue in the network-based, in-line intrusion prevention systems (IPS) market, with approximately 28% market share. The study shows TippingPoint`s revenue is growing at a more aggressive pace than any other IPS manufacturer.
"With the addition of 3Com`s financial resources and distribution channels, we expect that TippingPoint`s IPS revenue will only go up from here," said Infonetics Research Principal Analyst Jeff Wilson. "TippingPoint has found success in the market due to its focus on network performance, security precision and ease-of-use."
According to the report, the market for in-line network-based intrusion prevention systems will grow significantly over the next three years. The CAGR for network-based IPS revenue is estimated at 39% between 2004 and 2008. Worldwide revenue for the network-based in-line IPS market in CY04 was approximately $128 million, $42 million of which was sold in the fourth quarter.
"Our sales this year confirm the maturity of TippingPoint`s intrusion prevention system and validate the successful execution of our product strategy," said Greg Fitzgerald, vice-president of marketing for TippingPoint, 3Com`s security division. "From the beginning, we set out to develop a purpose-built intrusion prevention system using specialised hardware and technologically advanced chips that enable us to continually enhance our IPS with more functionality and security without hindering network performance. The market is proving our leadership with their purchases."
TippingPoint continues to pioneer the intrusion prevention systems market. Since launching the first IPS in 2002, TippingPoint has become the most decorated IPS. For a full list of awards, please visit here.
