ICL Africa has announced that its business intelligence (BI) and Web reporting product, Information Builders, came out tops in a total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) study conducted by Ventana Research.
Ventana states that the independent audit "could save organisations between $92 000 and $329 000 for a 1 000-user implementation, or $129 000 to $1.6 million for a 10 000-user implementation".
The research methodology captures "all costs relating to the development, deployment, support and use of the project" and compares them across multiple vendors. Five BI vendors were measured: Actuate, Cognos, Informatica, Information Builders and MicroStrategy.
TCO was measured across real-world use case scenarios over an annualised period.
The study found "significant cost variances" among BI vendors for similar business use case scenarios. ICL reports variances "as high as $1 669 429 per scenario, when comparing Information Builders` cost for reporting deployments compared with the highest priced vendors evaluated".
Information Builders beat all participating competitors, including Cognos and Informatica, in the categories of predefined reporting on both Windows and Unix platforms, as well as parameterised reporting, says Twanette Jurd, ICL solutions manager, systems integration and BI unit. Business Objects did not participate in the study.
In ITWeb`s 2003 BI survey, Information Builders was placed among the six most top-of-mind BI vendors by respondents, and rated one of the top five in terms of long-term security positioning.
