Information is the key

Johannesburg, 06 Nov 2002

According to the poll of attendees at the last Softworld Accounting and Finance show, recently held in the UK, 70% of accountants polled believed that providing improved management information is the main reason for investment in new technology. This indicated that the accounting and finance function is becoming a company`s most valuable asset.

Interestingly, the main barriers to implementing new systems were cited as cost and time constraints and resistance to change. However, 58% stated that they were looking to introduce a brand new system, rather than introduce just new functionality.

Access Accounting saw this management information trend coming and addressed the points above by releasing Executive Desktop, which produces reports instantaneously. Executive Desktop is not expensive, it is simple, quick and easy to implement and taught in seconds to anyone.

It is the best way to ensure companies have complete management planning and control. Powerful information, including statistics and trends, can be delivered fully formatted and straight to the Windows desktop at astonishing speed. Businesses can also use Executive Desktop to set goals for personal, financial and management activity. These KPI (Key Performance Indicator) facilities help drive company-wide productivity, through the setting, monitoring and reporting of performance targets.

"Access Accounting is already using this software to improve its own performance and is encouraging its dealer channel to do the same," commented Access MD Alistair O`Reilly. "Indeed, Access has been able to launch a business club on the strength of this one product. This club aims to give dealer principals a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, helping them boost activity and profitability, and plan for long-term success."

Continuing on the theme of better distribution of key business information Access has also launched a `paperless communication facility`, with e-mail and fax integration.

Users can now e-mail documents or reports directly from within the Access application. The technology integrates with a range of messaging services, including Microsoft Exchange and Outlook. Documents are automatically addressed, and are sent as e-mail attachments in industry-standard PDF format. E-mailed documents can then be stored automatically with the customer or supplier records, in the accounts.

"All of these facilities are in addition to the work Access have already completed on XML, which transfers transactions between customers and their suppliers, concluded O`Reilly. "Access provides users with the widest choice of messaging integration available in this market sector, and ensures that accurate information is always available to those who need it."

"This UK survey shows that information is certainly the key," added Paul Marketos, MD of ASYST International SA. "I firmly believe that the situation in southern Africa isn`t any different, and that the patterns manifested elsewhere in the world are equally applicable locally. For us, the good news is that we have the facilities and support available today to enable us to exploit this situation."
