Certified information systems professionals (CISSP) will meet in Johannesburg tomorrow to discuss the future of local information security and plan input for the local market.

"The CISSP drive is to bring the information security professionals in the country together to assist and develop the management process on the continent as well as form a working reference on ethics," says Security Audit and Control Solutions CEO Mervin Pearce, who is spearheading the CISSP initiative.

Pearce says there are 29 000 certified CISSPs worldwide and 140 information security professionals in SA.

"The SACS (Security Audit and Control Solution) has been the driving arm for CISSP development in SA. However, we have been driving this as an international chapter in SA, and the demand for a local body is increasing day by day," says Pearce.

"The purpose of the meeting is to nominate a committee that will further the information security and risk management profession and certification in SA."

He adds that the issues to be discussed include getting more CISSPs involved in information security and risk management locally, keeping up to date with the Continuously Professional system and discussing the international development of the certification.

"The information security profession has to be properly managed, as there are many self-proclaimed security professionals in the world."

The meeting will be held at the Birchwood Conference Centre tomorrow. For more information, go to www.cissp.co.za.
