Embedded vendor INSIDE Secure has unveiled EasyPlug cryptographic middleware, a that it says lets developers add strong security to mobile devices, USB tokens, PC-Link products and embedded systems.

The software is certified by Microsoft and combines tamper-proof Common Criteria EAL 5+ hardware, FIPS 140-2 certified firmware and a Microsoft-certified smartcard mini-driver.

Bernard Vian, executive VP for Secure Transactions at INSIDE Secure, says the solution lowers the cost of implementing advanced cryptographic capabilities. He added it simplifies securing applications like browsers, SSL authentication, remote access, single sign-on, documents and e-mail.

"In the future, EasyPlug will enable us to offer complete cryptographic solutions for a broad range of INSIDE hardware security modules."

Vian adds that the "increasing prominence of attacks" is driving the use of secure hardware beyond traditional applications such as financial transactions. EasyPlug enables manufacturers to add secure microcontrollers to a range of existing applications, based on current standards for cryptographic application programming interfaces (APIs).

"With a flexible architecture designed to be deployed in USB, PC-Link or embedded systems, EasyPlug middleware automatically identifies and provides the appropriate cryptographic functionality for the platform and application through standard APIs."
