Popular social photo app Instagram is now available for Windows smartphones. Instagram announced the news on its blog, saying its move comes "as tens of millions of people around the world have taken to Windows phones".
"We wanted to make Instagram available to people with Windows phones as quickly as possible, so we focused on creating an awesome experience with Instagram's core features. We're not finished, and our team will continue developing the Windows phone app to keep releasing features and bringing you the best Instagram possible," says the blog.
Instagram has seen impressive growth over the last year. When the app was made available to Android users in March 2012, it had a 30 million user base and now boasts more than 150 million active daily users.
Nokia SA has also expressed its excitement at having the app available on its Lumia range, and says it is pleased to offer its users "the world's most popular social photo app".
An Instagram insider revealed in September that the popular app will be bringing ads to the platform within the next 12 months. Instagram's director of business operations, Emily White, said at the time that the company is considering having product images on the platform that link directly to their Web site, but said this concept will have to be executed carefully.
Soon after the announcement, American Vogue shot three separate fashion shoots, using nothing but Instagram and an iPhone. Each themed shoot had an accompanying hashtag to allow Instagram and Twitter users to view, share and comment on the images.
