The Midvaal Water Company recently went `live` with an implementation of the award-winning Platinum SQL 4.2 Financial and Distribution Suites.
The installation, which was undertaken in conjunction with Insys Business Solutions, began in September 1999, and involved the re-capturing all the data from Midvaal`s DOS-based system. This difficult task entailed tracking the company`s history through the input of some 16000 line items of costing, in order to obtain 2 000 accurately-priced line items.
The implementation was completed over a three to four day period. This was in record breaking time, and was made possible through a pre-planned schedule that stipulated each person`s exact responsibility, together with the resources that would be needed in order to finish the task on time. Midvaal staff worked throughout the previous week to ensure all seats were prepared by the time the Insys implementation staff began the cut-over process.
This complex Platinum installation included a pre-data conversion document, produced by Insys analysts that explained the cut-over process and the resource planning that was needed to make the project a success.
"I`m full of praise for Insys, who not only delivered on time but were always available to sort out any extra issues that might have occurred during the cut over to the new financial systems", commented Rafat Khan, the Financial Manager at Midvaal Water. "This was our second attempt at undertaking this exercise, since we abandoned the first try after some 18 months, when there were still many outstanding issues, and a far from stable system. At this stage we brought in Insys and re- commenced the cut-over process again from the beginning."
