Integr8 IT, specialist in network integration, solution implementation and support, recently provided the Department of Education (DOE) with the necessary IT infrastructure to boost an IT education-focused Freedom Day celebratory event.
The initiative involved collaboration between five countries (SA, Northern Ireland, Palestine, Mauritius and Nigeria) as a pilot to test the feasibility of international electronic communications for similar events in the future.
This interaction was hosted at Cape Technikon, but the culmination of the four-day event took place at the Castle of Good Hope where dignitaries from all over the country attended a video conference focusing on the material the learners had generated.
"Without the intervention of Integr8IT most of the dignitaries, educators and other guests would not have had the opportunity to interact themselves with the material that they were discussing and celebrating. At extremely short notice, the Integr8 IT team agreed to provide the necessary server infrastructure and platform," explains Kate Tindall, Project Manager, Alchemy Software Solutions.
"Naweed Kazi and his team gave of their time to source and prepare the hardware, do site inspections and later to set up the machines over a weekend and be onsite during the event on a public holiday. They installed software on the machines, networked them, and liaised with our technical staff to install and test the application on the server," adds Tindall.
Robert Sussman, director at Integr8 IT, says it was a pleasure for the company to contribute towards this South African-led initiative.
"We were only too pleased to be involved in this dynamic exercise. We believe that the development of electronic and information technology communication skills among the youth is vitally important. The future of SA`s ICT industry lies in the process of skills transfer and development. It was interesting to see the material generated by learners through their interaction with other learners from around the world. Technology is an enabler and this is a great example of how it can empower and enhance processes, especially within the field of education," says Sussman.
