National network integration and infrastructure specialist Integr8 IT provided reliable Internet access and ICT infrastructure to help keep The Cape Town World Cinema Festival and the Sithengi Film & Television Market up and running.
Sithengi is a section 21 company mandated to promote the development of, and trade in, African and more specifically South African television and film product to a global market.
The organisation hosts two major annual events, both of which run during the month of November. In order to ensure the smooth running of the registration process and secure reliable Internet access for effective online registration and database management, the company outsourced the skills and services of Integr8 IT.
"This also included 40 Pro Line machines which had to be networked along with Internet access within various areas of the market," says Patrick Schneider, project manager and consultant at Integr8 IT. "The product library was set up with a Windows 2000 Server and a SQL 2000 Database for streaming movies to the PCs. Delegates could watch up and coming movies on 19-inch monitors."
Integr8 IT also installed a dedicated 64k line to the registration network along with ADSL as a backup Internet line.
"Integr8 IT, in conjunction with MTN Network Solutions, provided Internet access via a 128k lease line, again with ADSL as a backup," adds Schneider. "A Windows 2000 Server with Microsoft ISA 2004 was deployed to act as a caching server or proxy server for fast Internet access and the entire network was deployed using Windows 2000 Professional."
Networking was done by CCI and switches were all 3Com.
Esther Henderson, chief communications officer at Sithengi, described the festival as a resounding success, especially from a communications and media management point of view.
"If one looks at the scale of communications that took place over the event, including a comprehensive Internet caf'e and fully equipped media centre, we are extremely happy with the level of service and professionalism that we received from Integr8 IT. Any small issues were taken care of quickly and smoothly and I believe they were, by far, the best service provider selected for the job," comments Henderson.
