Integrated Tertiary Software (Pty) Ltd (ITS) and TDF Computer People Development (TDF) recently signed agreements that will allow a number of learners from previously disadvantaged communities to acquire accepted information technology qualifications, coupled with practical career experience.
In terms of the agreements, four learners, Sharon Monama, Sharon Pooe, Oscar Marandela and Patson Marandela, will spend a period of a year at ITS under the guidance of experienced ITS staff. Each learner has been allocated to an ITS staff member who will act as mentor to the learner. During this time, the learners, who have completed formative programming training through TDF, will have to study to meet a number of predefined outcomes, that will allow them to prove relevant career related experience.
Derick Jordaan, CEO of ITS, said: "The learnership program is an addition to other initiatives by ITS, such as our bursary program, to contribute towards the development of information technology skills in South Africa. ITS is fully committed to the success of the South African information technology sector, and skills development is an integral part of this process."
Francois Gersbach, Managing Director of TDF, added: "TDF have always emphasized the importance of real-life, real-work skills as well as professional programming. We are excited about this opportunity to take our philosophy another step further and contribute to the national skills development."
