Bytes Communication Systems is pleased to announce that the Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch 8600 My Instant Communicator, part of the Alcatel-Lucent OmniTouch 8400 Instant Communications Suite for Enterprise, is now integrated with IBM Lotus Connections.
The integration will offer users the ability to take advantage of real-time and contextual communications, ultimately connecting people, processes and knowledge more effectively. Together, the solution will now be able to perform searches that will help identify people based on required skills or knowledge, helping customers immediately identify who in the organisation is the most appropriate to route to, to meet their needs. And then connect people using the power of unified communications.
“Collaboration is essential among technology vendors, many of the Bytes customers don't just use a single vendor's technology, making it essential for integration between systems,” says Alichia Griffith, Product Manager at Bytes Communication Systems. “As a result of the integration of the Omnitouch 8600 and the Lotus Connections suite, we are now able to offer customers an improved mechanism for unified communication and collaboration.
Combining the capabilities of the presence-based multimedia, telephony, audio conferencing and Web collaboration OmniTouch suite, with that of the Lotus Connection social software for businesses' ability to delve into granular information on the people of the organisation, lends itself for the ultimate automated telephony system designed to ensure your people are collaborating, your business takes full advantage of all opportunities presented to it, all while improving productivity.
When using the integrated solution customers will be able to search for a contact with relevance to a specific skill set required to assist users with issue resolution related to technical, sales or business questions. When used together, the system will produce a suggested list of contacts, including the details, presences and availability of the individual. A “tag cloud” - or list of associated topics or expertise - is also offered, helping users make an informed decision in establishing the most appropriate connection.
Using the OmniTouch system, the user can select the mechanism by which they want to contact the person, and when this contact is established, the tags associated to the request or call are sent to the recipient, notifying them of the nature of the request and the potential skills required, giving them time to prepare for the query.
“It is all about knowledge exchange, improving productivity and ease of use. Communications is coming to a stage where it needs to not just enable business processes, but also intelligently aid the mechanism and nature of the delivery. With this type of collaboration customers can now start taking advantage of the full benefits of true unified communications,” adds Griffith.
Benefits of the integration between the Alcatel-Lucent and IBM products include the ability to increase the productivity of existing business models and enable new modes of work, additional collaboration and conferencing capabilities as well as converged telephony and messaging for versatile real-time communications, a cost reduction, and the ability to leverage off of open standards-based platforms and applications from trusted market leaders.
Integrated with the full range of capabilities of the OmniTouch 8600 My Instant Communicator, users can now leverage features that include the availability of colleagues to take a call, call control, visual voicemail, directory access, messaging and conferencing services.
