Intel-based servers well suited to SMB IT requirements

Johannesburg, 18 Jul 2003

"Recent research conducted by Intel shows that very few small and medium-sized business (SMBs) have the requisite IT infrastructures to run their businesses efficiently," states Mark Forbes, Intel servers product manager at Axiz. "And of the companies that do have some form of IT infrastructure, many are using older PCs as servers, putting their business`s critical information at risk. Intel`s research showed that this is particularly true of emerging markets, such as SA."

Axiz kicked off its campaign in support of Intel`s real server marketing strategy this month, according Forbes. He explains, "The `real server campaign` is targeted at SMBs, particularly in the emerging global computing markets, such as SA, China, Brazil, Mexico and Russia. Intel has designed it to assist SMBs to more easily identify the server infrastructure that Intel believes best meets the demands of business today, such as security, networking, component redundancy, storage and multitasking. Using the most appropriate server together with Microsoft Windows Server 2003`s multi-user application ability helps SMBs to lower operating costs, improve performance and facilitates the growth of the business.

"Servers built on Intel architecture are as good as any branded server because of the Intel-developed technology such as multipath boot, drive stabilisation, and airflow headroom that they incorporate. According to the International Data Corporation, more than 85% of servers shipping today are based on Intel architecture," he states.

Forbes adds that the campaign also recognises the importance of the reseller channel to SMBs: "Since most SMBs don`t have dedicated in-house IT resources, they rely strongly on their solution providers to guide and advise them. The Intel program includes training for the channel on how to design and build optimum systems for each client`s specific requirements."
