Intel chipset to revolutionise IT
The world's biggest chip maker, Intel, has unveiled the chipset it is banking its immediate future on, and one it hopes will shake up the market, reveals The BBC.
The product, code-named Sandy Bridge, is Intel's first architecture to merge a microprocessor and graphics processor onto a single silicon chip.
It is designed to cut the time it takes to produce images.
Ex-IBM exec jailed
Robert Moffat, former GM of IBM's Systems Group and a former board member of Chinese PC maker Lenovo, has been sentenced in a federal court in connection with the Galleon insider trading scam that was uncovered last October, writes The Register.
Moffat, who was once an heir apparent to run Big Blue once Sam Palmisano retires, was indicted on charges that he fed New Castle Funds hedge fund employee Danielle Chiesi insider information on AMD, IBM, and Lenovo, and that Chiesi and billionaire founder and MD of the $7 billion Galleon Management fund Raj Rajaratnam used this information to profit illegally. Moffat allegedly passed this information to Chiesi between August and October 2008.
Moffat was never accused of doing any illegal trades of his own, and Chiesi and Rajaratnam both pleaded not guilty to the insider trading charges in December 2009. By March of this year, after protesting his innocence, Moffat pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against him, and by August, Moffat was admitting that Chiesi and he were "intimate" and that he was telling her stuff to “appear important and knowledgeable”.
Fujitsu to release wireless charging tech
Wireless networks and Bluetooth keyboards can free people from some cable clutter, but Fujitsu believes new research could help whisk away some power cords too, reports CNet.
Fujitsu said Monday that it's overcome design hurdles for a mechanism for wireless charging of electronic devices and that it plans to use the technology in products to be sold in 2012.
The general idea, which Intel, MIT, and other organisations have been researching for years, offers the prospect of a laptop or phone that charges when you set it on a desk or table, potentially getting rid of some cables and making travel easier. Fujitsu has bigger ideas in mind, too: transmitting power within a computer chassis and charging electric cars, for example.
Cyber-criminals target SMEs
According to a report by Trustwave's SpiderLabs, cyber-criminals have ramped up attacks on the bank accounts of small to medium enterprises (SMEs), and tailor-made Trojans are the weapon of choice, says ZDNet Asia.
The Web Hacking Incident Database report, by Trustwave's SpiderLabs, examined 158 publicly reported incidents in the first half of this year. The analysis excluded many small Web defacement attacks listed on Zone-H.org since they would skew the data.
It noted a "steep rise" in online attacks against financial institutions this year, particularly against accounts held by SMEs.
