Intel collects 3600 items for charity

Johannesburg, 29 Nov 2006

The Intel CommunITy Chest charity project 2006 has been declared a success, with 3 589 items (such as clothing, stationery and computer equipment) being collected for charities. This is three times more than last year.

Various individuals from the IT industry contributed to the drive. A total of 67 boxes of items were donated to The Salvation Army and a further four will be handed over to the Bosele Dawn Drop-in Centre, in Bela Bela.

Devan Naidoo, country manager for Intel South and Sub-Saharan Africa, says: "This year's CommunITy Chest, the second of its kind, proves that we are onto a good thing - everyone has some kind of promotional item that they don't need lurking in a closet or desk drawer somewhere.

"Few people realise that goods such as clothing, stationery, computer components, printers and such are desperately needed. Donating them to the people who need them and can actually make use of them makes a whole lot of sense."

Intel has thanked its partners in the programme, Annex, Axiz, Esquire, Lightedge, Mustek, Proline and Sahara, who helped to make it a success.
