Intel`s bi-annual developer forum is under way in its new location - San Jose, California. The theme for the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) Conference, Fall 2000, is "Connecting the Net, powering the Net", according to Kea Grilley, director, technology initiatives marketing.
Peer-to-peer, ease of use, software, wireless, networking, IA32 and IA64 are all given prominence on the agenda, with many new announcements expected from the technology vendor over the next few days.
Some of the highlights include more detail on the Pentium 4 and its Netburst architecture, as well as the next-generation StrongARM embedded processor. Architectural announcements revolve around USB 2.0, Serial ATA, Universal Plug-and-Play (including a version for Linux) and Infiniband.
Intel`s networking push will be demonstrated through both wireless technologies - such as Bluetooth - as well as higher-end networking technology.
Over 5 000 delegates are expected to attend the conference, which was moved from Palm Springs after it "outgrew" the old venue, according to Intel. The event takes place from 22 to 24 August.
