Intel expands EMEA channel for emerging markets, outlines growth opportunities at Intel Solutions Summit

Mobility, digital home convergence and enterprise refresh to drive channel growth
Johannesburg, 20 May 2004

Intel today announced an expansion to its EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) channel network to include another 20 emerging countries to drive business opportunities for the channel in mobility, the digital home and enterprise refresh.

Intel`s latest investment to increase global channel coverage was revealed by John Lonergan, Intel`s worldwide channel marketing director, at the EMEA Intel Solutions Summit in Madrid on 19 May, which serves as a platform to showcase trends and technologies and provide a venue for resellers and distributors to interact with Intel executives.

In a keynote speech at the annual event, Lonergan explained to over 500 EMEA Intel Premier Providers how it plans to build on channel successes in 2003 and Q1 2004. Lonergan said Intel will further increase investment in its channel programme to help its resellers and distributors achieve continued growth.

"The three main growth areas for the channel in 2004 are mobility, the digital home and enterprise refresh. Each of these areas represents significant opportunity for Intel resellers and Intel is committed to drive this growth," said Lonergan.

The EMEA summit is one of three conferences being hosted by Intel this year for Intel Premier Providers around the world. The other summits have been held in Las Vegas, US and Sydney, Australia. This year Intel is introducing a new series of in-depth technical solutions training events as part of the summit.

"In 2003, a strong driver of growth in EMEA was the emerging markets where we`re establishing a strong presence," continued Lonergan. "We`re committed to investing marketing and training resources to educate the channel on the benefits of delivering cutting-edge mobility, digital convergence and enterprise refresh solutions to customers in these markets."

2004 marks the sixth anniversary of the Intel Premier Provider (IPP) programme, Intel`s top channel membership programme for resellers and solutions providers who have qualified by demonstrating a commitment to leadership and technical expertise in desktop, server, mobile or wireless solutions. Growing at an annual rate of 40% annually since its launch, the programme offers enhanced branding, technical training, and support benefits to top channel customers who have demonstrated Intel platform integration and solutions expertise. There are currently more than 500 IPP members in EMEA spanning 50 countries.
