Intel names new chips

Intel has named its new chip architecture set for release in 2010 as Gesher, reports The Register.

Gesher is one of the codenames, like Merom, that seems to have been churned out by Intel Israel.

It apparently means 'bridge` in Hebrew and is used to describe an Israeli political party.

MS sues over source-code theft

Microsoft has filed a lawsuit against an alleged hacker, who broke through its copy protection technology, charging that the mystery developer somehow gained access to its copyrighted source-code, reports CNET.

Microsoft`s federal lawsuit claims that the hacker, known as "Viodentia", must have gained access to proprietary source code in order to break through its DRM technology.

For more than a month, Microsoft has been combating a program released online called FairUse4WM, which successfully stripped anti-copying guards from songs downloaded through subscription media services such as Napster or Yahoo Music.

US tech industry job growth soars

The US technology industry added 140 000 jobs in the first half of 2006, according to a recently released report by the Washington-based AeA (formerly the American Electronics Association), reports eWeek.

The numbers, which have not been seen since 2001, show that although the gains are nearly double the 78 900 added in the first half of 2005, the tech industry growth rate still lags a percentage point behind that of the US private sector.

The hi-tech services sectors, composed of communication, software, engineering and tech services, added 107 000 jobs between January and June.
