Intel ships low-power processors

Intel is shipping new server processors that consume as little as 12.5 watts per core, states Cnet.

The new additions to the Xeon 5000 Series include the L5430 and X5270 processors, the fastest of which boasts a clock speed of 3.5GHz, says Intel.

The low-voltage L5430 uses only 50 watts of power or just 12.5 watts per core, while the dual-core Xeon X5270 draws 80 watts.

Adobe selects Harmonic

Harmonic's Rhozet media transcoding technology has been selected as the core technology for the new Adobe Flash Media Encoding Server, says Welt Online.

The new Flash Media Encoding Server can take advantage of multiple CPU cores within a single machine as well as multiple machines in a network. This results in the fastest transcoding platform available for preparing content in the FLV format.

Rhozet technology accelerates encoding of F4V files using the new H.264 video codec as well as FLV files using the older VP6 codec.

Dell expands virtualisation

Dell is releasing an expanded portfolio of products to assist organisations in implementing a virtualisation strategy, which includes new servers, storage hardware and services, reports VNU net.

Among the new products are the PowerEdge M805 and M905 blade servers complemented by M8024 10Gbit Ethernet and M5024 Channel switches, and the EqualLogic PS5500E iSSCI storage appliance.

Available immediately, the PowerEdge blade servers are focused on memory and I/O scalability.
