Intelleca has appointed Carlos Goncalves as its technology director to focus continued efforts and resources on product development.
The company is South Africa`s leader in speech, voice biometrics, VoiceXML self-service automation, and contact centre on demand solutions.
"We needed a dedicated director of technology to continue our systems development with the focus and attention that we strive to achieve in all areas of our business," says Michael Renzon, MD of Intelleca.
Goncalves has more than eight years` experience specialising in software engineering and product development, with a focus on the speech and contact centre industries.
"I have a passion for speech technologies that has led me to work with all the major speech engines including those from Scansoft, Nuance, Microsoft and IBM," he says. "As director of technology at Intelleca, my responsibility is the product and technology strategy of the company`s state of the art speech offerings and contact centre on demand solutions."
He is actively involved in delivering speech solutions for the South African market, built on Intelleca`s South African English, Afrikaans and isiZulu acoustic models, and multilingual speaker verification (voice biometric) technologies.
In his most recent position, prior to joining Intelleca, Goncalves was responsible for delivering various world-class speech products at Encue Communications, working closely with leading international speech companies such as Nuance Communications and Microsoft.
In this role, as a member of the SALTForum technical working group and early adopter of the VoiceXML specification, he led the development of a voice media gateway supporting VoiceXML and SALT.
Prior to that Goncalves held senior positions in local software companies where he led system architecture definition and development execution. His duties included developing product requirements, high-level product architecture, object-oriented analysis and design, team leadership, sales initiatives, and product fielding and support.
Goncalves has a full complement of system architects, engineers, a team of software developers, laboratory engineers, and a sophisticated laboratory with the necessary servers and software to perform the requisite testing and trials for tuning the speech engines.
