Java-based BlipExplorer, a cellphone application containing rich media content, has been commercially released at Norway`s Vradal ski centre.

BlipExplorer serves as an alternative to paper brochures for guests at the ski centre.

"This application is provided free of charge to the visitors and includes features like transport and details, ski dating, shopping information and a ski Java game," says a Blip Systems statement.

The application is available to the consumer upon the booking of a ski holiday.

BlipExplorer uses Bluetooth technology as the bearer, with content updated by Bluetooth access points, known as BlipNodes, the company says.

"The BlipNodes are controlled by a central server containing a complete content management system, database functionality and BlipExplorer download ," explains Blip Systems.

It hopes the browser will allow consumers to tailor the content they wish to receive, through preview screens of the available content, and message alerts for schedule changes and special offers.

"This innovation offers companies the opportunity of having one-to-one communication with their target audience through the consumer`s mobile phone," adds the statement.
