Intel`s latest range of motherboards, featuring the 845G chipset with integrated graphics, has ramped up very successfully in the South African market. According to Alex Morse, desktops product manager at Intel distributor Axiz, the boards are already making up approximately 50% of the company`s motherboard sales.
"As these motherboards were only launched two months ago, this is significant," she says. "It would appear that system builders are recognising the benefits provided with the new chipset, especially the integrated graphics - which removes the need for an additional graphics card and therefore lowers the total cost of the system."
However, the range also offers flexibility in that a solution is available for power users, featuring a slot for add-in graphics cards.
Another advantage of the motherboards is that they can take both Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Celeron processors, making it the obvious choice for buyers on a budget who want the ability to upgrade later.
The Intel 845G chipset is a flexible, scalable solution for a broad range of corporate and consumer computing needs. The chipset offers the available bandwidth of DDR266MHz main memory, coupled with a 533MHz or 400MHz front side bus (FSB) and high-speed USB 2.0 connectivity.
Axiz is a distributor of products from market leaders HP, Microsoft, Intel, Kingston, Kalliba and LG, and also carries a wide range of leading brand components and solutions. More information is available at www.axiz.com.
