Intelsat, the world's leading provider of commercial satellite services, announced today that Edward Berger has been appointed to lead the Business Development organisation, which is responsible for the analysis and implementation of joint ventures, strategic alliances, and other growth opportunities for Intelsat.
Berger has been at Intelsat for 18 months, leading a variety of business development initiatives in the areas of mobility and partnerships, and was formerly on the board of directors of Inmarsat. He has more than 15 years' experience in the telecom and satellite sectors.
Reporting to Berger as part of an expanded Business Development team will be Veronica Pastor, who moves from Intelsat's legal department to become the Director of Business Development for Europe and the Middle East.
Industry veteran Stephen Tom, the former Executive Director of the Pacific Telecommunications Council and the former CEO of the Washington International Teleport, also joins Intelsat's Business Development group as Director of Business Development for Asia-Pacific and Africa.
Rounding out the group, Mary Ann Brazell and Guy Cheney will continue to serve as key executives responsible for business development in the Americas and Asia-Pacific, respectively.
"I am pleased to have Ed lead our BD team," said Phil Spector. "Ed's background as a CFO and general manager, along with his deep industry knowledge, will give him a solid foundation on which to build this group. I'm also pleased to welcome Veronica and Steve to the group; their complementary skills and knowledge of their regions should underscore, with our customers and with other satellite operators, the fact that Intelsat is committed to prudent growth and to finding regional opportunities to work more closely with others in our industry."
Chris Russell named VP of Financial Reporting
In the finance and accounting department, Chris Russell has been named Vice-President for Financial Reporting. In his role, Russell will report to Anita Beier, Senior Vice-President and Controller, and will have responsibility for internal and external financial reporting, including quarterly and annual SEC filings and numerous statutory audits, and for accounting research and advice on technical accounting issues.
Molly O'Connor and Dennis Eppard will report to Russell.
"Chris comes to us from the Big 4 audit firm Ernst & Young, and brings 11 years of public accounting and auditing experience," said Beier. "I am pleased to welcome Chris to our department."
