Impressed by the work of Cotlands Baby Sanctuary, Intelsat South Africa (Pty) Ltd has extended its partnership with the organisation, committing to support its rapidly growing Home-Based Care project that helps feed and care for children who are orphaned or whose mothers are terminally ill with AIDS and unable to care for their families.
With a recent donation from Intelsat, Cotlands will be able to purchase one year`s worth of infant milk formula for the Home-Based Care project, which supports 500 families at a time, located in two provinces, Gauteng and Hlabisa (KZN). This is the second year that Intelsat has supported Cotlands.
Located nearby Intelsat`s sales office in Johannesburg, Cotlands Baby Sanctuary provides care for abandoned, abused, orphaned and AIDS-impacted children. Cotlands is one of SA`s largest independent, non-profit organisations, and has been caring for children in distress for 67 years. The dreadful impact of AIDS on families and home-based care has led Cotlands to focus greater attention on the needs of families and children within AIDS-impacted homes, in addition to providing placement services.
"Intelsat is proud to support an organisation that has demonstrated such remarkable success in the care of our society`s most fragile children," said Johan Prinsloo, Intelsat`s Regional Director for SA. "More than anyone, these children need help, love and material support. Cotlands is at the forefront of establishing initiatives that have a real impact on children`s lives, while creating hope and rest for parents with AIDS."
"When companies like Intelsat show generosity of this magnitude, the ripples are felt throughout our organization. With funding for Home-Based Care, Cotlands is able to bring desperately needed care to afflicted families who are otherwise unable to travel to receive food and medicine," commented Jackie Schoeman, Executive Director of the Cotlands Baby Sanctuary. "Without support like this, our battle to provide the basic necessities to the children in our care would be almost impossible."
