When the Pakistani leg of the Sea-Me-We3 cable failed recently, causing significant disruption to services provided by Pakistan Telecommunication Ltd (PTCL), Intelsat was able to restore service to the affected country within hours.
Currently, Intelsat has established five new duplex links by utilising its earth station in Fuchsstadt, Germany and its 904 and 902 satellites, located at 60oE and 62oE, respectively.
Using its GlobalConnex infrastructure, Intelsat is providing GlobalConnex Internet Trunking services, allowing PTCL to connect to an IP backbone network and enabling the restoration of Internet traffic and call centre traffic in Pakistan.
PTCL had a redundant network and satellite ground equipment in place prior to the failure of Sea-Me-We3, which enabled Intelsat to get new restoration services up and running quickly.
In addition to providing its GlobalConnex Internet Trunking service, Intelsat is providing space segment capacity to restore 21 E1 duplex circuits which will be used to restore voice traffic between Pakistan and various other countries.
A representative at PTCL, stated: "We are thankful to Intelsat for its fast turnaround time and the sense of urgency with which it treated our request. Intelsat`s resources, both technical and human, allowed us to find a suitable satellite solution very quickly and begin communications again within hours."
"We are glad that we were able to successfully restore critical communications links to PTCL in its time of need," said Ramu Potarazu, COO of Intelsat, Ltd.
"Nobody is happy when a network outage occurs - it has a negative impact on people and businesses by bringing all communications to a screeching halt until a solution is found. Fortunately, Intelsat is extremely skilled at the fast and seamless integration of satellite solutions; we were able to provide PTCL with a redundant network that was quick and easy to implement within hours of the failure."
