Leading customer interaction specialist Inter-Active Technologies donated 67 books and various other learning materials to Buang Cr`eche and Day Care Centre, in Soweto, on Wednesday, 18 July 2012, as part of the company's commitment to supporting Mandela Day.
A number of staff also volunteered 67 minutes of their time to read to and interact with the children of the cr`eche while enjoying birthday party celebrations in honour of Mr Mandela.
Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity, and Mandela Day was established in 2008 to encourage corporates and individual citizens to follow in his footsteps by giving up 67 minutes of their time to support a worthy cause.
The 2012 Mandela Day theme is education, and Inter-Active Technologies divisional manager for PR and corporate responsibility, Jeanne Sandras, points out that the company places a strong emphasis on providing education for the youth, especially to those who have difficulty accessing it.
“Investing in people, whether it is our staff or the children at Buang Cr`eche, is a major theme at Inter-Active Technologies. We will continue to invest in people internally, but it is truly amazing to be a part of a project like Buang Cr`eche, which is changing lives for the better on a daily basis - following in Mandela's footsteps by helping to make a brighter future for all,” she explains.
Headmaster and founder of Buang Cr`eche, Moipone Phetlhe, adds: “Mandela Day brings a lot of joy and happiness to our children, and we appreciate the support that Inter-Active Technologies provided for us. Education is the key to opening the door to a better life for these children, and we would not be able to do this without the support and assistance from Inter-Active Technologies.”
Sandras believes Mandela Day is an important day, not just for South Africans, but also for people all around the world. “As a company, Inter-Active Technologies can only hope to contribute to what Mandela has done for the country, in terms of investing in the future and investing in our children. We have been working closely with Buang Cr`eche for the past three years, due to the fact that we fully support the fantastic work and commitment that is carried out by its staff on a continuous basis.”
More than 600 employees at Inter-Active Technologies received a small gift from the company to commemorate Mandela Day 2012 and Madiba's 94th birthday. Sandras continues: “We also held various fun competitions internally that were focused on Madiba and his legacy. While this has been held as a fun day, it is also important to recognise the important role that Mandela has played in our country's past, and how even now, at the age of 94, he continues to shape our future.”
Looking to the future, Sandras adds that Inter-Active Technologies will continue to support the principles of Mandela Day moving forward. “We should all strive each and every day to build a better future for South Africa, and Madiba's birthday is the most fitting day to remember that. Furthermore, we also recognise and honour Mandela for the legacy he has built over his 94 years. He is a truly remarkable man and an inspiration to us all,” she concludes.
