Inter-Active Technologies' Wellness Centre: Reinvesting in our most valuable asset

Johannesburg, 27 Aug 2009

Inter-Active Technologies, the call centre specialists based in Roodepoort, has experienced an unbelievable growth curve since its inception in 2004, growing to more than 400 employees today. The company has a staff turnover of less than 3% - unheard of in today's economical climate. CEO Brendan van Staaden attributes this exceptionally low figure to Inter-Active Technologies' investment in its people.

Towards the end of July this year, Inter-Active Technologies opened the doors to its brand new Wellness Centre, situated in the company's Galleria building in the heart of Florida's CBD. “Our Wellness Centre is testament of the commitment we have to our staff. We strongly believe that our people are our most valuable asset,” says Van Staaden.

Inter-Active Technologies' Wellness Centre includes a free Internet caf'e, entertainment area - complete with DSTV, pool tables, a casino corner and a table tennis section. For those looking for a more relaxed, peaceful setting - there is a reading corner, a massage parlour, as well as a fully stocked canteen with an impressive menu. In addition to being an entertainment centre, this Wellness Centre also has an extensive range of features that focus on the staff mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

“This facility is more than just a fun centre; it includes a hair and beauty salon, prayer room for our Muslim staff members, as well as private counselling rooms that will be utilised for ad hoc campaigns that will run continuously in the future,” explains Inter-Active Technologies' Travel and PR Co-ordinator Jeanne Burger. “We recognise that the needs of our staff extend further than their involvement at Inter-Active Technologies, and for that reason we have a full-time nurse on hand to attend to issues such as HIV Aids awareness, family planning sessions and to perform minor medical procedures and assessments.”

In addition to the full-time nurse, Inter-Active Technologies is also looking to host ad hoc counsellors to advise staff on various key issues, such as financial assistance, family trauma and domestic violence. These counsellors will be available to educate and consult with any of the staff on a one-on-one basis regarding such issues.

The Wellness Centre represents the secret to Inter-Active Technologies' immense achievements thus far: sincere appreciation and recognition of the vital role that staff members play in the growth and success of any company. “We are re-investing in our staff and helping them to use their free time more efficiently. Rather than them spending their tea-breaks or lunch hours commuting in and out of the office, we have strived to provide them with an in-house solution to their needs - be it a clinic, financial advisor, beauty salon, Internet cafe or simply a quiet alternative from their stressful work environments. We strive to keep our staff happy, which, in turn, will ensure that our business does the same,” concludes Van Staaden.
