Interconnect seizes advantage with `A` rating from EmpowerDEX

Johannesburg, 24 Mar 2006

Widely known for its quality-conscious approach and technically innovative spirit, it`s not surprising that Interconnect Systems, the largest installer of communications cabling systems in SA, is also progressive when it comes to corporate governance.

As a 30% black owned and 50% black controlled company, Interconnect was awarded an `A` rating by independent economic empowerment rating agency EmpowerDEX. This means the company is classified as a `good` broad-based black economic empowerment (BEE) contributor with an unconstrained operational capacity.

The EmpowerDEX rating is based on a range of factors. These include BEE ownership and management, employment equity, skills development, affirmative procurement, enterprise development and social development.

Khosi Ndlovu, Group Director responsible for the BEE transformation process within Interconnect Systems, previously worked for Telkom. There she was also involved with formulating social and economic responsibility initiatives.

She says: "Although Interconnect in 2003 initially transformed at stakeholder level, since then we have worked hard to turn the vision of broad-based empowerment into a reality. In my opinion, the EmpowerDEX certificate suggests that our determination to bring about internal transformation has paid off. This is truly a proud moment for the group."

Interconnect Group MD Willie van Aswegen says: "Competitively, there`s no doubt that the `A` rating adds a valuable element to our marketing arsenal. But because our focus has always been on establishing lasting relationships with our customers, the true significance of the rating is that our business partners will realise a commercial benefit through their association with us."

Jayne Phiri, Interconnect Group Marketing Director, adds: "Interconnect has already experienced considerable success because of our BEE strategy. Now that we`ve received the thumbs up from EmpowerDEX, we`re hoping to claim an even larger share of the market."
