Intermec focuses on retail sector

Intermec Technologies, a global leader in supply chain solutions and automated data collection and mobile computing systems, is focusing on developing business in the retail sector in SA in line with its global strategy.

This follows Intermec`s success in the UK and Europe with leading retailers, such as Sainsburys, Tesco and Metro, and Wal-mart and Home Depot in the US. Intermec also recently announced the release of a suite of retail data automation products, namely the CN2 and CN30 mobile computers.

To assist in the implementation of this retail-focused strategy, Rudi Martin has recently been appointed as business development manager for retail for Intermec in SA.

Martin has over nine years of experience in the data identification industry, varying from industrial solutions, ERP integration to retail and distribution environments.

Martin, based in Cape Town, comments: "This appointment shows Intermec`s total commitment and investment in SA, as well as the retail sector. This bodes well for not only our channel partners, but also for the end-users who have access to Intermec`s global resources, including design, consultancy, project management and training. Our global customers also benefit from being part of this worldwide network."

Intermec created a local position for the first time in SA to support its channel partners and end-users during 2003 with the appointment of Hylton McCabe.

Andrew Fosbrook, Managing Director of Proscan, sole value-added distributor for Intermec in SA, says: "We will work closely with Martin and give him all our support to unroll our joint strategy of further penetrating the retail sector."
