Intermec, a global leader in the mobile technology space, has made a bold move to back its drive for growth in the Southern African region by not only opening new offices in Bedfordview, but also by the appointment of three additional key staff members to its team.
Rudi Martin, Country Manager, commented: “The new offices are vital to our visibility and accessibility to the industry.” The space is centrally located at the Bedfordview Office Park, Unit 17, First Floor, number 3 Riley road, Bedfordview, and is allowing the company a venue to really put down roots after 30 years of supplying the African region with rugged mobile computing and supporting technology for streamlining business.
Adding highly experienced members to the team has been key in being able to better understand and support clients' needs and facilitate expansion in the region. The appointments allow coverage over a broad spectrum of the business; Abie Strydom, Channel Business Manager; Walter Groenewald, Technical Manager; and Bronwen McKerchar in Marketing.
Abie Strydom has 15 years of IT experience under his belt, with a qualification in Marketing and Software Programming. The size of a project is no obstacle for Strydom after being designated a technology team leader at the Port Elizabeth Stadium for the FIFA Soccer World Cup last year. When asked about his value-add to clients, he noted: “I am looking forward to giving the partners the attention and love they need in order to strengthen the Intermec brand. Most important is the attention, but I also strive to understand each partner, and assist them to grow their specific mobility businesses. Ultimately, their growth determines ours.”
Heading up the technical division is a task well suited to Walter Groenewald, who is no newcomer to Intermec Mobility Technology, with experience as Business Solutions Manager for Simba where he implemented Intermec hardware in Mobile DSD Solutions, and employed his software development skills. Groenewald boasts a BSc Degree in IT from RAU, is PRINCE 2 Certified, and has 14 years of experience in IT.
Groenewald has his sights firmly focused on affecting change by using mobile technology to improve business processes and controls. When asked how he felt his presence in the team was to be an asset, he highlighted: “My end-user and total solutions background covering the total solutions development life cycle gives me an in-depth understanding of what is involved in implementing solutions. Having consulted with Belay Integration Services allowed me exposure to many industries, from insurance to FMCG. As a result I am more able to balance technical requirements with business process understanding.”
Bringing a feminine touch to the team is Bronwen McKerchar. Two years of previous industry experience with the Intermec brand and a total of six years in marketing and sales gives McKerchar the inside track on building brand awareness and supporting partner relationships. “Being passionate about a brand is vital. Intermec products are not only manufactured to the highest quality, but I truly believe are assets to any business employing their technology. I aim to transfer the enthusiasm I have for the brand into awareness within the industry and a better understanding of the service offering that company has.”
Intermec develops, manufactures and integrates the most sophisticated tools for the fully co-ordinated supply chain. Its core technologies include RFID (radio frequency identification), mobile computing and data collection systems, bar code printers and label media. Intermec products and services are used by the leading companies of diverse industries worldwide to improve the productivity, quality and responsiveness of their business operations - because investments in Intermec technology go straight to the bottom line, this being especially essential in challenging financial climates.
