Intermec Technologies, a global leader in supply chain solutions and automated data collection and mobile computing systems, announced an expansion and investment programme to increase its presence in southern Africa to meet the needs of the expanding markets in the region.
Intermec has for the first time created a local position to support its channel partners and end-users. Hylton McCabe, who has years of experience in the field and an in-depth knowledge of Intermec products and solutions, has been appointed as Intermec Business Development Manager for SA.
Intermec also announced the appointment of ProScan Systems as sole value-added distributor (VAD) for its range of products and solutions in southern Africa, based on the two-tier distribution model.
ProScan has been accredited as an Intermec Global Medallion Partner for the southern African market, whereby the local company has undergone extensive training to offer support and repair to original equipment manufacturers` standards. In collaboration with ProScan, Intermec has established a bonded warehouse in Johannesburg, Gauteng to ensure the availability of fast moving data automation products.
McCabe said: "Operating as part of the Intermec Global Medallion Service Network, ProScan will offer the same programmes and service levels as an Intermec subsidiary in any country. Our major customers in Europe and North America will be able to extend their existing support contracts to southern Africa and expect the same service level agreements and commercial terms."
McCabe`s responsibilities include the stimulation and development of vertical markets, ranging from retail, industrial, transport and logistics to consumer goods.
"I will also look after all our channel partners and system integrators, as well as review end-user requirements, propose viable solutions and match end users with suitable solution providers as part of the service," added McCabe.
Intermec`s Honours Partner Programme was recently launched in SA, which includes a roll-out of a series of extensive training programmes and events in collaboration with ProScan, committing both organisations to extensive training, support and marketing for its channel partners.
McCabe said: "As part of this programme, Intermec`s partners are required to demonstrate a high level of competence in selling, supporting and servicing Intermec products, systems and solutions. "
Andrew Fosbrook, Managing Director of ProScan, local VAD for Intermec, said: "Intermec`s total commitment and investment in the market and our organisation bodes well for not only our channel partners, but also for the end-users. It will go a long way to increase standards, service levels and support in the industry. At the same time, we will have access to Intermec`s global resources, varying from design, consultancy to project management and training. Our global customers will benefit from being part of this worldwide network."
