International expert discusses extending Active Directory to the Unix-world

Johannesburg, 07 Nov 2007

Computek, an ICT solutions and products company, and Microsoft Gold Partner in Africa, is currently conducting strategic sessions around the country on Active Directory implementation and the benefits it holds for non-Microsoft platforms.

Centrify`s Directcontrol is an Active Directory-based solution which enables centralised authentication, access control and auditing for Unix, Linux and Mac Systems.

"This solution extends the security features and efficiencies of Active Directory to the extremely diverse and complex requirements of the Unix, Linux and Mac Environments," says Bob Shears, Centrify General Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Shears, who is in South Africa to co-present at the Active Directory Strategy Group (ADSG) sessions with Computek and Microsoft, says over 300 organisations worldwide have already seen the benefit of the product in their ICT infrastructure. "Companies such as Pfizer, Hoffman-La Roche, ENI and BMW, are some of the biggest Centrify customers in Europe.

"We are delighted to be working closely with Computek in this region and we have been greatly impressed by their expertise and professionalism," says Shears.

Shears worked in enterprise software sales and management throughout Europe for 25 years. He worked with diverse technologies, including databases, application development and middleware, and has started Centrify Europe, Middle East and Africa during 2005. Centrify now has a partner network throughout Europe, Israel and in Africa.

The ADSG sessions will take place from 6 to 9 November in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. For more information on these sessions, contact Gareth Warner on 011 805 0229 or e-mail gareth@computek.co.za.
