To achieve its objectives, IT must effectively coordinate, leverage and integrate the technology, people and processes of its various IT functional silos in support of the overall IT plan. If IT fails to deliver service in accordance with business objectives, IT and the business environment will both invariably find themselves at risk. IT organisations that consistently underachieve will find that they lose business confidence, and face the risk of being outsourced.
CobiT is a management framework that establishes the link between IT and the business objectives. Investment in IT provides no direct value. Information systems are essentially tools, much like bulldozers and other expensive equipment used in the process of creating value for a customer. An information system has no intrinsic value on its own.
