A mix of local and international speakers will give local Oracle users a global perspective at the seventh annual SA Oracle User Group (SAOUG) conference at Sun City in October.

SAOUG GM Chantelle Weston says although international speakers have taken part in previous conferences, the SAOUG has brought more speakers to the conference so that local users don`t have to travel internationally to find solutions to maximise the use of their Oracle technology.

"Our aim is really to pick up on the global trends that are relevant to the local market. Quite a few delegates from Africa have registered for the conference and we will have speakers from Britain, the US and the UAE to bring the resources that they have to the local market," she says.

Around 600 delegates are expected to attend the three-day conference to share success stories, update their knowledge of the Oracle products they use, and draw on the resource base and input that the international speakers bring.

Speakers will include Computer Associates` principal architect Christopher Elvin, who will speak on Oracle Fragmentation; Gavin Soorma, database support controller at Emirates Airline in Dubai, who will discuss the Oracle Collaboration Suite; and Old Mutual`s Brent Moore who will discuss how to a large-scale implementation.

SAOUG chairman, Bryan Roestorf says the new Oracle 9i Application Server (AS), databases and Linux implementation will be key focuses at the conference.

"Sessions including the new Oracle 9i AS were chosen to assist local Oracle users in addressing the real-life issues that they face," he says.
