Nearly 50 SA hotspots available to IS users
The number of wireless hotspots around the country has reached nearly 50 nationwide and is set to expand even further. This is according to Richard Vester, general manager of Mobile Solutions for Internet Solutions (IS), the country`s largest wireless hotspot aggregator and a leading converged communications services provider.
"With our substantial investment in wireless hotspot technology, and solid partnerships with top partners like M-Web, we are now able to list a good number of wireless hotspots that take our corporate customers from office to on the road," says Vester.
Currently there are IS managed hotspots at:
* Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban international airports
* 11 City Lodges
* 12 Mugg and Bean coffee shops
* 22 News Cafes
* Balalaika Hotel
In addition, IS`s corporate customers can now get access at more than 10 000 hotspots around the world, thanks to the recently signed agreement with hotspot aggregator WeRoam.
"Our corporate customers have access at any of these hotspots," says Vester, "but the real advantage comes with the fact that as IS customers they have one centralised authorisation and management on the IS infrastructure platform. As our corporate customers are centrally hosted on our backbone, this is a single sign on for their users, no matter where they are. Also, the billing goes back through the IS billing system to an itemised bill to the company and we are pleased to announce this is 50 cents (SA) per minute cheaper than any other hotspot aggregator in the country - roughly a third cheaper."
Travellers in SA are coming to trust and use the wireless hotspots with usage increasing by at least 50% month over month.
Internet Solutions (IS) has transformed its business model and become a leading converged communications service provider in the country.
The business was founded on the principle of developing a robust infrastructure in order for corporates to conduct e-business. Over the past decade IS has established itself as a leader in this space, attracting over 80% of SA`s top businesses as clients.
During its 10-year life span, IS has evolved and grown its service offerings. Today, the company is the leading hosting service provider and security service provider in SA, as well as having significant market share in the virtual private network and application service provider space.
Internet Solutions, with an Empowerdex BBB rating, has earned an impressive collection of accolades, including eight First National Bank "Most Admired" awards, two Financial Mail Best Company to Work For awards, a place in the Top Unlisted Company Awards and first place in the ISP category for ComputerWeek Strategist`s Best of Breed IT Awards, 2004. The company partners with major players such as Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle BT and AT&T, and in 2002 was certified as a Cisco Managed Security Service Provider, the first and only company outside of the US to be awarded this accolade.
