Internet Solutions gets digital security

Solutions has installed Intervid`s security surveillance at its Johannesburg and Cape Town branches. The system will be implemented countrywide, says Intervid Africa regional sales manager Bernard Gilbert.

"As the system is rolled out, each branch will connect to a national control centre, which will monitor security, productivity and record who has worked on specific items at each branch, thus allowing management to be everywhere at once," Gilbert says.

"The system gives customers peace of mind because it monitors service levels and ensures their needs are being met. It also allows Internet Solutions to refer back to who did specific work for the client if the client has a query," he says.

Intervid recently completed a national roll-out for Nestle, allowing the company to monitor productivity, health, safety and security.

"In a factory environment, the system allows management to view where the hiccups or bottlenecks are and check that safety measures are being adhered to by staff."

Gilbert says the system offers more than an analogue system because one is able to move easily through digital material as opposed to fast-forwarding through videotape. He says a host of software accompanies the digital system, allowing one to do more than just record.

"The software gives management increased control with high-speed dome cameras, allowing them to zoom in on a situation or pan out. Along with that, triggers can be set to start recording when a door opens, when a machine is activated, or when there is movement within a room.

"The cameras can also be used to count people. This is done by monitoring people moving in one direction or monitoring the movement of people to different sectors of a retail store, allowing management to strategically plan the layout of the store," he says.

Intervid has also installed its digital security surveillance system at Newlands Rugby Stadium in Cape Town and Absa Stadium in Durban to monitor the stadium grounds and perimeter for the control of theft, vandalism and crowds, Gilbert says.
