Global Crossing and IS sign bilateral agreement for MPLS VPN

Johannesburg, 14 Sep 2004

Internet Solutions (IS) has signed an agreement with international telecoms giant, Global Crossing for a bilateral MPLS VPN footprint.

Under the agreement, South African customers of IS will have access to Global Crossing`s global, IP-based network, and Global Crossing`s international customers will have access to MPLS-based services in SA.

"MPLS is fast becoming the de facto protocol for corporate connectivity, enabling not only bandwidth efficiencies, security and multiple classes of service, but also more attractive pricing," says Todd Schoeman, international VPN product manager for IS. "As South African companies extend the reach of their businesses internationally, their communications requirements increase. The reverse is true for companies based outside of SA that need connectivity into the country. From a local perspective, this offers SA companies a single solution provider for all their international managed services."

"Using Global Crossing`s iMPLStm service allows both companies the commercial flexibility to expand their footprint and service offering with minimal capital expenditure and reduced time to market compared with a network build strategy," says Rob de Ruig, director, new business development, Global Crossing. "We`re excited to be pushing the boundaries of technology and taking MPLS one step further. Interoperability is the way forward in today`s telecom environment and we foresee this being a growth market for us."

The service level agreements (SLAs) signed by both companies are particularly stringent, as one would expect at a global partnership level.

Says Schoeman: "This bilateral agreement is unique in SA and another first for IS. Global Crossing is a world-class, global company, and we are delighted to count them as a partner. The agreement assures first class, reliable and experienced seamless services for both companies` users."
